Basic Types of Custody
There are many different combinations of custody. Custody type can be ordered depending on many different factors including, how far apart the parents live from one another. The following are the most common and basic types of custody in a nutshell.

Legal Custody
With legal custody, you have the right to make major decisions regarding the child. Including but not limited to, educational and medical decisions.
- Physical Custody
Physical Custody, is where the child primarily resides, sleeps, etc.
- Sole (Full) Custody
When a parent has both legal and physical custody.
- Joint (Shared) Custody
Both parents have equal decision making rights, as well as equal physical rights (time spent with child(ren).
- Joint Legal Custody
Both parents have equal rights as to major decision making.
- Joint Physical Custody
Both parents have equal physical rights.
